Encounter Teams
The ENCOUNTER teams are the first faces a new person will encounter when visiting one of our services. These are teams of committed members whose goal is to serve the congregation in multiple ways to make their Sunday experience most fruitful. Our desire is to see EVERY MEMBER serving in some area of church life, as we see this as a vital component to your own growth as well as the church's. Below is a list of the various ENCOUNTER teams that serve in a Sunday service, and we encourage and welcome you to become a part of one of these teams. We rotate teams, so no team serves every Sunday - with sufficient volunteers, our goal is to have each team serve only once every 3 or 4 weeks.
Pre-requisites
Since those serving on these teams will be representatives of our ministry to the members & visitors; we have some pre-requisites we ask of members before being added to a functioning team:
- To have completed the Encounter Booklet, and have these foundations at work in your life.
- To have completed our Members course, and be a part of one of our weekly Connect Groups.
- We also request that you do a Victory Weekend; but you can start serving on some teams while waiting for the next weekend to be presented.
We also ask you to complete the TEAM Training for your specific team before becoming active on that team. Concise training is provided for all of our team members - so all we need for most teams are willing volunteers.
ENCOUNTER TEAMS:
- Ushers: The ushers are a vital part of the efficient functioning of Sunday Services. They assist in HOSTING the services by greeting people as they arrive; directing people to the various venues and seats when applicable; anticipating and meeting the needs of church attendees as they arise, taking up offerings and providing communion & brochures. We need people of all ages and cultures to serve once every 2-3 weeks.
Contact: derrick@hispeoplejoburg.org - Traffic team: Parking is one of our greatest challenges, and we need an organised team to assist with parking and traffic control for the morning services. We need men each Sunday to direct and manage the traffic and parking lot. Traffic team members will have reflective vests to identify themselves, and are there to ensure that the parking area is utilised to its maximum capacity, allowing most people access to the parking lot. You would be required to be on duty from 15 minutes before the service until 20 minutes after the start of the service. Traffic team members rotate every 2-3 weeks.
Contact: derrick@hispeoplejoburg.org - Follow-up team: The first few hours after a baby is born are the most critical for its survival; this is true for newly born-again members of God’s Kingdom also. The input, nurture and direction that they get immediately after they surrender their lives to Jesus are crucial to their continued wellbeing as Christians. We need members from all ages and cultures to assist us with Sunday altar calls by coming forward with New Believers when they respond, and going upstairs to pray with them, get their information and present the encounter materials to them. Members will be trained in the process, and should be willing to give 10 – 15 minutes, after whichever service they attend, to speak to and pray with New Believers.
Contact: derrick@hispeoplejoburg.org - Prayer ministry team: For mature and committed members; who fulfil all the above pre-requisites; this team ministers to people who come up for prayer at the end of services.
You will need to attend a training session and will need to be on duty after a Sunday service for 20 minutes once a month.
Contact: carol@hispeoplejoburg.org - Door Greeting Team: as the name suggests; a team of friendly people to greet people as they arrive, and assist with any questions/needs they may have on arriving.
Contact derrick@hispeoplejoburg.org - Multi-Media team: We need technically qualified persons to assist with running all the multimedia slides/videos/etc during the services. Should have good computer skills.
Contact: nyameka@hispeoplejoburg.org - Connect Group leaders: Our aim with Encounter, and Follow up, is to get every new believer into a connect group - you may want to consider getting involved as a Follow-up "Connector" in you connect group, or even starting a new Connect group in your area.
